What’s it all about?
Our church’s drama group has a longstanding history with public performances commencing in 1983.
We perform plays, pantomimes and sketches with the aim of enhancing the life of the church through providing entertainment, engagement in our local community and through fundraising. Membership of the Players is for those from the church or other local churches and includes children who join us from the local community. If you’re not part of a church currently but are interested in getting involved please contact us as we’d still be interested in hearing from you.
Our pantomimes are an annual fixture now in the church and community’s calendar. Pantomimes are great fun to come and watch and to be involved in. We usually perform them during the last week of January and are well supported by the church and friends locally including the uniformed organisations that meet in the church. We have a resident scriptwriter whose writing credits include ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Neverland: A Peter Pan Pantomime’, ‘Aladdin and the City of Thieves’, ‘Rapunzel’, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Treasure Island’.
Our adult cast previously performed plays and sketches during the year however in more recent years the focus of these additional performances has been on our Junior Cast:
“Roots”
The Junior Section of the players (newly named as ‘Roots’) forms a large part of our pantomime cast and since 2014 the group have performed in their own summer productions. These shows include: ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ ,’James and the Giant Peach’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Alices Adventures in Wonderland’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘Robin Hood’ These shows have been very successful and well received and give an opportunity for our younger cast to develop their confidence and skills.
Like the main group the Juniors become members of the Players through their connection to the church or occasionally are recruited through other groups such as Youth Club if we have a need for a larger cast.
This drama group is free of charge and there is a high interest in it. We do not have open membership applications but instead recruit to the group as the need arises. If you would like to register an interest please contact us.
We expect commitment from our adults or young people to the particular production that they are part of. For members of ‘Roots’ in particular the level of commitment shown will determine whether we can retain their place as part of the group. If you’d like to know more please get in touch via the email address below.
