For: Girls aged 5 to 7 years
Meet: Wednesdays 5:15pm - 6:30pm. Term time only.
We have space for between 15 and 20 girls at a time in the unit and due to the good attendance we have an established waiting list. We try to allocate a place close to when when the child turns 5 whenever this is possible; however, intakes to the unit are at the start of term time only to reduce the disruption to the established members.
'Subs' are paid on the first night back every half term with current prices being set at £2 per evening. This covers the costs of the materials we use as well as the Girl Guiding Association Census which acts as our insurance. Obviously, to ensure we have the monies for the Census the subs must be paid even for evenings when the child does not attend.
The excitement at coming to Rainbows apparently spills into school on Wednesdays when the teachers will often ask the parents 'what we get up to' as the girls are so excitable at the thought of the evening in the unit. We make it as fun-filled as possible aiming to make something most weeks that the girls can take home. We learn new songs, dances and games and have an action packed hour and a quarter each time we meet.
Although we meet in Christchurch, 1st Llanedeyrn Rainbows is open to those of any religion and we try to accommodate any child with a disability or special learning requirement wherever we can.
The unit is run by four adult leaders of long-standing Guiding experience. All have Guiding qualifications, first aid training and enjoy seeing the girls enjoying themselves learning, growing and developing through play and creativity. We are ably assisted by two young leaders, both of whom were previously Rainbows, who are working towards their young leaders' qualifications.
